Q: What types of stairs do you build?
A: We build a wide range of stairs to suit your needs, from stunning hardwood staircases that elevate your space to simple, construction-grade stairs for practical applications. Whether you're looking for a showpiece staircase or a functional set of stairs, we ensure quality craftsmanship in every project.
Q: Should the railing be installed before or after new flooring is done?
A: Ideally, the railing should be installed before the new flooring to ensure the best fit and finish. This allows us to secure the railing properly without needing to work around the flooring. However, if your flooring is already in place or will remain unchanged, we have specialized methods to work around it while minimizing any impact. Let us know your situation, and we’ll adjust our approach accordingly!
Q: How do I place an order?
A: To start your project, please contact us via phone at 306-955-6338, email at info@bpbanister.ca or drop by our showroom at 2941 Miners Ave. We'll discuss your design preferences, provide a detailed quote, and guide you through the next steps.
Q: What types of wood do you use for your projects?
A: We primarily use high-quality hardwoods such as maple, red oak, white oak, poplar, walnut, cherry, birch, hickory, alder, beech, fir and pine. But we can use nearly any hardwood depending on its market availability.
Q: Can you match existing woodwork or finishes in my home?
A: Absolutely. We can match existing wood types, stains, and finishes to ensure a seamless integration with your current décor.
Q: What is the typical lead time for a custom project?
A: Lead times vary depending on the complexity and size of the project. After discussing your specific requirements, we can provide an estimated timeline for completion.
Q: Where do you provide services?
A: We regularly serve clients across Saskatchewan and are willing to travel beyond the province for your projects. While we can work anywhere, please keep in mind that the further the distance from Saskatoon, the more travel costs may apply.
Install Process
Q: What does the on-site installation process look like?
A: The setup will vary depending on the size of your project, but in most cases, our installers will need to:
Set up work tables, saws, and tools to complete the installation efficiently.
Use dust covers and protective materials to help minimize mess.
Take necessary precautions to ensure a clean and safe workspace in your home.
Every project is unique, so if you have any specific concerns, let us know, and we’ll do our best to accommodate. Here are some example photos of a typical setup:
Finishing Process
Q: How does your colour matching process work?
A: We offer colour matching for both solid colours and stains to ensure your railings complement your space perfectly.
For solid colours, we can match or create just about any colour you need.
For stain colours, we can do a custom match based on a sample you provide:
Real wood samples (like hardwood flooring) can be matched very closely.
Artificial wood products (such as laminate or vinyl plank) are much harder to match exactly. In these cases, we recommend choosing a contrasting stain that complements your overall design.
Before finalizing, we’ll provide a custom colour sample for you to review on-site to ensure it meets your expectations.
Q: What does the on-site finishing process look like?
A: Most railing jobs are finished on-site after installation. Here’s what you need to know:
The process requires extensive setup, including sealing off the area with protective coverings and taping off each spindle.
Stairs and railings will be unusable during the daytime while we work.
To ensure proper application, your home’s HVAC fan will need to be turned off while lacquer is being sprayed.
We use water-based finishing products that have a slight odor, but they are safe, and you can still stay in your home overnight.
If you have any concerns please let us know, and we’ll do our best to accommodate! Here are some example photos of a typical setup.
Q: What should I expect from the finishing colour match?
A: While we take great care in achieving the best possible finish, there are natural variations that come with working with wood. Here’s what to keep in mind:
Perfect colour matching is not guaranteed—this is part of the natural beauty of wood.
Factory finishes cannot be exactly replicated when applying finishes on-site.
Wood grain and colour naturally vary, even within the same project. This can affect how stain absorbs and may result in slight differences.
Shadowing around obstacles (like spindles) is sometimes unavoidable.
Minor paint bleeding onto finished walls may occur and could require touch-ups.
Removing tape after finishing may lift some existing paint, which might also need touch-ups.
If you have specific concerns about the finish, we’re happy to discuss options and help set the right expectations for your project. Here is our photo of our colour library, but we can custom make any colour!
Q: What is your commitment to quality?
A: Our goal is to provide the highest level of craftsmanship and attention to detail in every project. Here’s our promise to you:
We use the latest industry methods to achieve the best possible finish and colour match.
We strive to match your sample as closely as possible, though natural wood variations may affect the final result.
We carefully select and grade wood grain to ensure the best aesthetic outcome.
We take every precaution when masking and unmasking to protect your space.
We work diligently to ensure consistent colour across all wood surfaces we finish.
Your satisfaction is important to us, and we’re committed to delivering a beautiful, high-quality result!
